Transition to T1 Rugby
Rugby Nova Scotia is excited to introduce a new style of rugby for the 2025 junior high rugby season: T1 Rugby, an innovative adaptation of touch/flag rugby developed by World Rugby. This new format features a modified rule, the “tackle triangle,” designed to enhance the playing experience for all participants.
To help coaches, teachers, and players prepare for this transition, we’ve provided the following resources:
- Junior High T1 Rugby Information Sheet
A clear breakdown of the new “tackle triangle” addition and how it fits into the game. - Junior High T1 Rugby Laws
A comprehensive document outlining the rules for the jamboree and tournament, with all new or updated sections highlighted in red for easy reference. - T1 Rugby Tackle Triangle Drills & T1 Rugby Tackle Triangle Drills Continued
Coaching drills created by World Rugby to support skill development and training plans.
In-Person Coaching Session
For teachers and coaches registered in the 2025 league looking for hands-on guidance, Rugby Nova Scotia is offering an in-person coaching session. This session will cover:
- How the tackle triangle works and the roles involved.
- Coaching tips and demonstrations for teaching tackle triangle skills and drills.
- A Q&A session for additional coaching advice, rule clarification, or league-related questions.
Interested in attending? Fill out the Coaching Session Request Form.
We’re here to support you every step of the way as we transition to T1 Rugby, making the game more engaging and inclusive for everyone involved!
Junior High T1 Rugby Jamboree
What is a Jamboree? The Junior High T1 Rugby Jamboree is a non-competitive event hosted by Rugby Nova Scotia, open to all schools registered in the Junior High T1 Rugby League. This event provides players with the opportunity to participate in exhibition games against other schools as a warm-up for the season-ending tournament.
The Jamboree creates a supportive environment where players can practice their skills in real game situations, and coaches can identify areas for improvement while providing on-field coaching.
Rugby Nova Scotia staff will be on-site throughout the event to assist with anything coaches may need—whether it’s coaching support, answering questions, or sharing resources to ensure a successful experience.
This event takes place during school hours at an indoor field facility, with participation from over 10 schools, making it a key highlight of the Junior High T1 Rugby program.
