New Opportunity for High School Students: Earn a Credit Through Sport Leadership

Sport Nova Scotia, in partnership with the Department of Education and the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, has launched an exciting new program for high school students across the province: the Sport Leadership Personal Development Credit.

This program is designed to help students build valuable leadership skills in coaching and officiating while giving back to their communities — all while earning a full high school academic credit.


Who Can Participate

  • Open to all Nova Scotia high school students currently in Grade 10 or above attending a public school in Nova Scotia  (private school student will need to check with their school first to see if they will accept the credit).

  • Students must be involved in coaching or officiating with a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) that is a member of Sport Nova Scotia  – this could be coaching/officiating at the provincial level or the club level.


Program Details

  • Students can earn one full academic credit upon completing the program.

  • To qualify, students must complete 110 total hours, which include:

    • Sport-specific education

    • Hands-on practical experience — such as coaching practices, officiating games, or working directly with teams.

  • The program is a great way for students to gain real-world experience, develop leadership, and contribute to the growth of sport in Nova Scotia.
