What is Junior T1 Rugby?

Junior T1 Rugby is here — and it’s taking over the Junior Flag Rugby program!

T1 Rugby is Canada’s non-contact version of the game, built to be fast-paced, competitive, and fun. Open to ages 10–15, it’s the perfect next step whether you’re fresh out of CoreT1, coming from the Junior High T1 League, or wrapping up your club rugby season. This is your chance to sharpen your skills, play real rugby, and stay active in the off-season.

Who Can Register?

This program follows the CoreT1 program + U12 summer club rugby.

  • If your child aged did not attend OR has not yet registered for CoreT1, and did not play U12 club rugby this summer, they must complete it before participating in Junior T1.
  • If your child played rugby this summer with a club in the U14 or U16 divisions, they’ll still need CoreT1 first. This is because this age group played contact rugby over the summer, and T1 has different laws they’ll need to learn.
  • If your child played in the Junior High T1 Rugby League last school season, they’re good to go!
  • If you child played in the U12 club rugby summer season, they’re good to go!
  • If you are not able to attend CoreT1, or have missed the program and would still like to participate in Junior T1 Rugby, please reach out to Remi at rugbydevelopment@sportnovascotia.ca

FAQs

  1. Do I need to know the T1 Rugby laws before registering?
Yes! This program builds directly off the CoreT1 program. If you haven’t completed CoreT1 and are ages 12-15, you must register for that first. If you played U12 club rugby this past summer, you are all set.
  2. What if I played contact rugby with a club this summer?
You’ll still need CoreT1 to learn the new T1 rules, since this program is non-contact.
  3. What ages can participate?
Junior High students in Grades 7–9 (ages 13–15), and U12 club rugby players (ages 10-12)
  4. My school doesn’t have T1 Rugby yet. Can I still play?
Absolutely! Junior T1 Rugby is open to all students. If your school doesn’t currently offer T1 Rugby but you think there’s interest, contact Rugby Nova Scotia — we’d love to help get a team started at your school!
